Discussion about Ricoh G & PX tough and waterproof cameras

back here with the usual...

Postby quester » Mon Nov 10, 2014 5:23 pm

A few months harvest work has kept me busy, but we're nearing the end of it, so it's good to have leisure again to check in here. Just saw that my last post was at the beginning of August... Nice to see that things are active and inspiring.
It seems that I have already taken photos of every aspect of work these last four years during which I have the PX, so there are less of those. But lucky for me the desert doesn't get as boring.... So I've enclosed some from my "backyard", as well as a couple of macros and other things. The machines are the platforms we use to work on the palms. The front section can close around the trunk, so we can work all around the tree. The one in the foreground can go twenty meters up.
Hope you enjoy and that all are well.

Good to see some desert pictures after quite a pause, quester. I like that #3 canyon most.

Thanks very much Andy and Peter!

Adding two more of a cute co-habitant (have no idea what its name is...) :

I love that last shot. Couldn't have been taken with a PX, you must be doctoring the EXIF! :D

Hi Richard, thanks very much!
I've come to the conclusion that these small-sensor cameras work really well in bright light, of which there is no lack here.

BTW, I managed to discover the name of the caterpillar - Casama innotata, a moth. The caterpillar feeds on the acacia leaves. Its bold colors suggest that it is poisonous or dangerous to other animals, as other life-forms abiding on the acacias tend to camouflage themselves. Some look like thorns.
These acacias are amazing, they are hosts to quite a few organisms, and form the backbone of the eco-system here.

Some classic Quester Desert scenes.
I like the camouflaged beetle on the sand.
Its not a scarab beetle by chance?

Thanks Tim!
This one is from the "weevil" (snout beetle) family, a different family than the scarabs. Might interest you to know that another species of this weevil, the red palm weevil, is wreaking havoc in all palm/date areas around the Mediterranean. They enter the trunks and simply devour them from the inside.
