can see many ideas so far could be the one ;) but i will add one also ... perhaps some sort of camera - perhaps movie/cinema camera of the big two reel system :?

was worth the guess :)

I must admit you are a horrible society here because one of you is really close in a quite short time period (although not utterly exact). But which one? I will reveal after get home later today so you still have a chance to improve the closest guess. ;)

Mmm...To do with some sort of heavy machine(rough cast metal levers),...centre pin there with numbers, to do with some sort of gearing, 0 being neutral(?)....accelerator on the right maybe...I'll go with the tram, (possibly train?) idea..

That center control has a 1,2,3 type setting. If I may I'd suggest a reel tape player or old style computer tape player.
