Fuji x100 or Ricoh GXR A12 28mm

Postby Genster » Fri Aug 12, 2011 6:11 pm

I have just sold my GRD3 and now I'm trying to figure out what I will buy instead, the Fuji or the Ricoh. Can anybody give me advise?

My advice, wait a bit for the GRDIV. Just in case ;)

It's hard to decide between the X100 and GXR A12. The X100 is the camera with great lens, lovely OVF/EVF and of course, STYLE ;) On the other hand, it's one purpose camera with no chance of expanding its possibilities (aside the FW updates). The GXR A12 does not look so sexy, the external EVF is bulky and expensive, but it can be upgraded with A12 50, later this year A12 zoom and in a very near future, plenty of new lenses thanks to the M module. True, the M lenses are pure manual beasts. But I'm pretty sure the M lenses manual focus will be much faster and more user friendly than the manual focus either with X100 lens or A12 AF lenses. In my opinion, the focus by wire MF is just for masochists ;)

Thanks for your reply Pavel.
It is (indeed) a difficult choice. I really loved the GRD3 but missed the photo quality of an APS-C sensor. I want a camera witch is pretty quick, especially for the (black and white) street photography but I also want to shoot good "regular" color photo's. In other words: I want it all :D and in only one (small) camera :D

Edit: I once had a GXR with an S or P10 in my Hands and it "fit" excellent. The main question is: Is it good enough (for me) for street photography (fast focusing)? The x100 has (also) zone focusing, if I'm right...

I chose the X100. I'm totally satisfied with the single focal length. I may look at the GXR again when the M module hits the second hand market.

She didn't even need to take the Sony out of the showcase for me, to see that the Sony would not be my camera

Genster,

Have you considered the Leica X1 or Sigma DP1 or 2?

Thanks for your reply David. If I'm right, the Sigma sensors are a bit smaller then from the GXR and x100... :?: and the Leica is a beautiful camera, but It' cost (without viewfinder) about 450 euro more than the x100 and more than twice a GXR 28mm :o

A12, X100, X1, DP... they're all APS-C sensors
