Ricoh GRD1 questions

Postby becauseitsnice » Mon Apr 18, 2011 11:35 pm

Hello guys. I'm giving away my beloved GRDIII to my girlfriend (i really love that camera to death along with my leica m6), and i'm planing to buy a used GRD 1. Can you guys give me your opinion on the GRD 1 vs GRD 3. What's better in what way. There is any major differences besides the LCD screen. How's the opitical on the GRD1 and whatever you guys want to throw at me. I'm only doing this because she complains a lot about how my GRD III is much better than her GX100.

The GRD3 has a far better screen, shooting experience, detailed menu controls, art filters, more sensitivity I seem to recall. GRD makes comparable images and is still a world-class camera. Certainly, it's better value for money. Going rate is about $140 in good condition.

GRD is all about the JPEG's, especially B&W. OF course it is one of the best handling cameras EVER, but the GRD III has the same controls with some improvements.

I really don't like the noise reduction of the GRD III (better than the II though), but there's always RAW. The GRD is too slow to write RAW, so its fortunate the JPEG's are done so well. ;)

I have a GRD1, and I think you'll miss the MY1,2,3 settings on the control dial. It's a pain on the GRD1 to have to choose which setting you want from the menu, and then turn the camera off and back on to activate the setting.
