For The Daido fan

Postby MikePenn » Sat Jul 21, 2012 6:16 pm

A lot of people have been wondering what camera Daido Moriyama has been using for his color photography. At a lecture I attended all he said was Nikon. From this photo it appears to be a Nikon S8100 or S8200.

Well, it was invented right here in Philly many years ago. The photographer's name is Wallace Nutting. Anything before or after Nutting doesn't really matter.
Daido, beings the smart guy that he is, realized that color comes from Nutting and he had the Nutting scene mode installed in his camera.
There used to be a big company that many of us old timers called, "The Yellow Mother". I think they made a few dozen rolls of color but it never went over to well. I guess that's why they aren't in business anymore.

Daido wants everyone to think he's doing color but it's really b&w. shhhhhhhh

Nikon is a small sub company of Ricoh. The problem is that they can't make anything that will sell, so Ricoh is spending much time trying to get them off the ground and because of that....Ricoh cameras are being developed at a slower rate.

You know kids.......

Quote : Moriyama shot approximately 30,000 photographs in Tokyo using his digital camera between 2008 and 2012. He carefully selected 191 images for “Color”.

so perhaps an expression - 29,809 was a lot to trash :D

Kort .

No this isn't my photo, it was taken in L.A. He's also 74 and still shoots for several hours a day.

I own the sold out limited edition book "color" that he just released in NYC several months ago and I would have to say it's his best color work ever. The lecture I was at at last November he stated he tried every Ricoh camera but preferred the color photos that came right out of the Nikon.

For those interested in the lecture here's the whole 78 minutes of it. This was the first time I met him.
