Recent Outing (Critique my pictures)

Postby Ovlovian » Thu Apr 26, 2012 9:57 pm

Went to the Mullin Automotive Museum (Oxnard, CA)
Took quite a few pictures and wanted to hear any advice on what I might be doing right (and wrong).
Love my "new" GRD III

Is my favorite

(First couple shots of older Corvette I found a few days prior and I eventually changed my ISO to take properly exposed pictures)

There are some very nice cars in your album. I'm particularly glad to see the legendary Czech car Tatraplan:

If I may suggest something, try to reduce the number of pics in your gallery. There are many over/underexposed and also some visibly blurry shots. I would try to save some of the underexposed shots, but many of them could be deleted without harm.

Car photos taken inside under fluorescent lighting I find notoriously difficult to get a good image. The lights above reflect off the shiny polished curved surfaces and inevitably blow out into hot spots - nothing I can suggest to fix this, even with lots of accessory lighting like high powered flash will make little difference. I tend to look at these as a memory of the day rather than the making of great art. Other guys will always be keen to see what you have and won't care about technicalities.

I do find the 28mm focal length to often be idea both to get the whole car in and good close up detail of larger parts. 28 also is ok for interiors if you can get access inside.
It seems you did have some underexposed for some reason?

I am trying to work out what the car in the first set #113 is??... I've seen it but got me beat?

On the whole an enjoyable bunch of cars!

That's an early 90's Bugatti with windows that remind me of the Subaru SVX. (The one you linked)
The car I had the 360degree shot of was a 1936 Bugatti Type 57SC Atlantic.

My underexposed shots were due to me trying to shoot shutterspeed priority but only having the iso at 64. Indoors that wasn't going to work. Adjusted ISO only and got decent shots at 400.
Mainly learning the camera as it was my first outing with it.

Thanks for the suggestion on deleting.
I'm going to cull it right now.
