would you like to see and use RicohForum personal blogs?

Postby odklizec » Thu Jan 27, 2011 1:25 am

Followed by the announcement I posted here, I would like to ask you about one, possibly interesting, enhancement of this forum.

What do you guys think about the possibility to have personal Blog hosted at RicohForum? Something like this:
http://lithiumstudios.org/blog/EXreaction/

I believe the style of the Blog could be changed per users so it does not have to look exactly like the above one. The address of your personal blog would be like this:
http://ricohforum.com/blog/your_forum_login_name

What do you think guys? Would it be useful forum feature? Would you consider to use such forum blog? Please, select yes only if you are sure or nearly sure you would use it. The blog integration is risky operation (as integration of any other mod) and makes the forum even less upgradeable in a future. So please, consider it with an overview of future.

Well, I would LIKE a blog BUT not at the expense of stability and upgradeablility so I voted No, but am really fairly neutral on this.
I can live without it but I do think I would eventually get around to doing one. They can be useful when travelling to update friends and family - I'd prefer it over FB.
As much as I'd prefer the blog here there are other options online. I feel I have to leave this with you Pavel as you are doing the hard work here.

Being an old(er) folgy, I have not idea what you are talking about, so I will abstain from voting. :D

I enjoy this forum very much, perhaps mainly due to it's personal and friendly feel, when one logs in one does not feel attached to the unknown like some larger sites/forums i care not to mention, therefore i would be selfish to say expansion into personal blogs is not my cup of tea as the RicohForum may then become more popular and so more individualy distant by the volume of entry.

But it is only natural to improve, in itself the personal blog is not a bad thing, more joining the forum in interest of photography/photo's is not a bad thing, the individual/personal collection and it's visibility is not a bad thing and so imagine that if monitored properly would be of good and positive move, i would just drink more coffee :)

will abstain from the Vote as am happy with status quo but also obviously accepting of the change Odkiljek could make.

Thanks for your comments guys! I didn't mean to scary you about the forum stability after installing the blog mod. True, future forum upgradeability will be somewhat harder, but who knows what will bring us the future? At the moment, we are over a year or so behind with updates and the forum is working fine so far. So I think one more mod will definitely not kill me or this forum ;) In addition, I'm planning to drop the support of two of four existing styles (Hermes based styles), which should make the things much easier for me. It's a nightmare to keep updated all four styles. And because the number of people using other than default style is pretty low, I decided to keep only the two most used styles. People using Hermes styles will be switched to default style, sorry folks.

I personally think that personal Blogs started at RicohForum could be a useful thing? As for myself, I can start my own blog outside the RicohForum, but then it will be yet another place to visit and maintain. And I believe that Blog integrated into forum could make the things easier for people without personal webspace? And finally, it's hard to start new blog and make it visited by the internet community. I think it's depressing to start a new blog only to find that nobody reads it? This is why the major number of new blogs die soon after their start.

On the other hand, with blog integrated into forum, we could be sure that at least exiting (active) part of the RicohForum community may visit our blogs and eventually post a comment or two ;) After integration into forum, there will be a direct link in each user's profile (right under the Post count/Location info). So it will make it very easy for people to visit your blog right from reading a forum post.

It's up to you guys. If you think you will have a use for a personal blog, I can add it. Thanks to new auto installation procedure, installing/uninstalling new mods is much easier than before. Not entirely automatic, because I still need to perform some manual steps. But it's much easier than before.

I only do one forum blog and it eats up a lot of time putting up quality stuff, so I'll pass, but thanks for going to the effort of making it available. I am sure there will be some excellent blogs soon.

I voted "no", because neither do I have the time to read them nor to write one -- I have enough to do with my own Website (and the many other sites that I have to maintain on my job). Bt others may, of course, think differently...

Personaly no, just because I hardly have the time for foruns and my current web pages. But won't mind if it is implemented for others, of course.

I voted no, I'm more of a viewer than a do'er.
The forum and the contests are unique and are much appreciated.

John
