Noisy sound when focusing

Postby becauseitsnice » Mon Jul 26, 2010 8:00 am

I'm playing with my new Ricoh GX100, and when I try to auto-focus or manually focus this camera it's make this annoying noise I can't stand. It sounds like it's struggling to focus; it sounds like a small bug is in there trying to scratch its way out; and it's just too noisy compared to my GRDIII. Does anyone else have this problem or have the GX100 that's really noisy when focusing. Is this even normal? I already updated its new firmware but the "problem" still exist. I don't know if it's suppose to be like that, help? Thanks in advance.

I'm afraid, it's pretty normal. Not nice but normal. Ricoh cameras (especially the older models) are noisier than other cameras. Recent CX and GXR cameras are noticeably less noisy. But for example GRDIII is still too noisy for my taste. Less than GRDI/II or GX100, but still not as silent as CX3.

My GX100 makes a racket to deploy & focus, as it should. Just have to live with its foibles.
The thing that annoys me though is review takes a second longer than it should to bring the image up on LCD.
Some times I press it again only to turn it off . DUH!
