GRD serial numbers

Postby HansdeHaan » Tue Apr 13, 2010 6:29 pm

Hi all,
since I have 2 GRD's and read about serialnumbers and their respective productiondates, here goes; feel free to add for a complete overview. The moderator is allowed to make an overview for easy access:-). The productiondates are derived from the year which is underneath the charger that came with the camera. There is some notion that the front adjustment dial is different, as are the buttons and the screens. Indeed there might have been a second production run?

# TQ - 1410 05931 - 2006 - stiffer, less crisp front dial with dull click - buttons are a bit stiff in operation - black shiny body - screen very slightly less bright than 2008 model - 1250 shots.

# TQ - 1410 09351 - 2008 - crisp front dial with precise highpitch click - matte black body - buttons are more defined in operation - bright screen - 2725 shots.

And yes, odd that the numbers are identical but in different positions:-)!

Hans, I think the rear wheel on GRDI is faulty because of design/manufacturing problem. My GRDI worked flawlessly up to now. Just today, I experienced some symptoms of a rear wheel freeze problem, widely discussed amongst the GRD community.

My GRDI serial is TQ - 14104774. Number of shots is very low, only 1116. I did not use this camera much. It was just a reference camera for GRDII tests.

GRD 1

TQ 14109436

No problems until now. Seems to be the described matte model with the slightly brighter LCD.

I am now starting to wonder if the GRD1-RWF (rear wheel freeze) is occurring due to lack of use rather than overuse or breaking. Perhaps corrosion or tarnish on the contacts sets in while idle?

Has anyone tried "exercising" or moving the wheel for a while to see if it comes good?

I take it you are only looking for GRD 1 SN's? Not looking for GRD II or III?

Looking back on it, when I first had mine, it only had about 2000 shots on it and it froze up once a few days later. I thought it was the cheap memory card I tried in it, but it might have been lack of use. It's still ok now after 20,000.

I ordered my GRD in Dec of 2005 and was able to pick it up from the dealer on 3 rd of Jan 2006.
It still works fine, although I very seldom use it today, since GXR and other Cameras are in place.
The serial number is: TQ 14100056
