The G3 from my limited knowledge are basically a freshed up RR30 with even marginally shorter shutter-lag, audio in movies, and a new body-shell.
Do you know if the G3 also have the same excellent white balance indoors as the RR30? I tried to figure that out quite some time ago but didn't find many reviews of it at the time.

There was no less than three body variations of the G3 http://www.dpreview.com/news/0711/07112 ... rdfirm.asp And also some thicker Pro G3 with Gps which seem to be very rare on the used market although I've seen it just about three times on Ebay.

Thank you for your comment Schaki.
Unfortunately I can not answer your question about the white balance (I hope someone else on the forum can do that). If I have time and can think up a good situation for it (tips?), I maybe can take some test pictures for you because I also have a RR30.

Indoors with a light-bulb as lightsource should work well. Many cameras have problem to get it correct with the auto-white balance. I know only the RR30, Samsung L74 wide, and Coolpix P50 which manages to get it correct on auto.

There are only one firmware-update for the G3 but quite some for the RR30. For quite some time I read that users had problem with the flash being too weak or underpowered but that was finally fixed with a firmware.

Another question here regarding the zoom. Is the zoom in the G3 still about as "whiny" loud during start up as on the RR30? I understand it is the same zoom but Ricoh might have tweaked the design.
Perhaps I should look at the Ricoh Caplio RX instead which have both 28mm and the ADJ-button. The RX have a slower aperture (f3.1) at the wide end. Maybe it is just about as small as a RR30 or G3 which size surprised me positively but I didnt like all that loud noise during startup.
G4 wide are marginally but noticeably bigger / thicker than a RR30. Remain to be seen however Ricoh managed to squeeze the size down again with the RX.

I couldn't resist and buy a Ricoh Caplio Pro G3 when one showed up on ebay.de. These Pro G3 use to be badly overpriced the very few times them show up in auctions on Ebay. This one wasn't and didn't have a reserve either. According to the description it should work but I'm aware that one can't take anything for sure.
But for just about 21 Euro (shipping cost included)I felt that I could afford to put some money on this "wildcard". I've no interest in the other three cameras but possibly the Olympus which might be just about OK. http://cgi.ebay.de/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?Vie ... K:MEWNX:IT
It took quite some time before the seller responded and provided me with the info needed to do a transfer of money to his bank account today. Guess the package should arrive late in next week.
