Homes for the soul to homes for the body. A rural Zulu homestead outside the village of Piet Retief. And some history: Retief was a Boer commander who was killed together with seventy of his men and a fifteen year old son by the Zulu King Chetzwayo. During protracted negotiations for cattle and land Retief had proved himself to be lying, cheating and stealing and his approach to the King was amazingly arrogant. For these reasons the King decided to set an example to other Boer and Brittish commanders in the area and had these men put to death by inserting a sharpened stick into their bodies from the rear end. So life goes on with men scratching for a place in the sun and ever reducing resources.

Sadly, from one massacre to another. :(
Glencoe, by Clan Campbell who murdered their hosts the MacDonalds (before breakfast) on 13 February 1692.
Link for those interested; http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Massacre_of_Glencoe

It was a very wet and windy day when I visited on this occasion...just the right weather to reflect on the history of this glen (valley).

From water woman with angry fishes, to politically correct roller blade girl in the green.

skategirl.jpg
Skategirl. Here used to be a "traditional" statue of a naked young woman, but the town council decided she was too young, and therefore child pornography, so they replaced her with a fully dressed young girl, including hat and roller blades. Here I'm trying to be provocative with her silhouette.

PC in statues has not quite reached Vienna as yet...and by coincidence, here is one that caught my eye earlier today!
From skating girl to nautical girl...

Edit:
On reflecting a little, I thought you deserved the full wonderful (IMHO) statue in all its wide-angled glory...
The highlights are just about 'blown' mind...

Red food; from big and sweet, to small and sour.

redcurrants.jpg
Red Currents. This is shot under a tree, so it was difficult to get a good picture because of the spotted light through the leafs. And the little lady would not let her be instructed to pose, nor would she be still for half a second. But I was lucky to get a shot where she is just gripping the berry.
