M module Lens and Accessory reviews

Samyang 85/1.4

Postby odklizec » Fri Mar 02, 2012 12:09 am

I finally got my hands around the M mount and this is my first photo from it. Sadly, both my usual models are in beds so here is at least simple flower test. I hope to post some more photos and comments about this interesting lens soon.

Here is how the lens look attached to the GXR. Because the Samyang is not made for the M mount, I had to use Nikon to LM adapter (bought from ebay). It not only looks big, but it's also a very heavy combo. So don't even consider it for all-day shooting marathons ;)

Well, yes, it's BIG and heavy lens. I added the photo how it looks attached on the GXR, plus three more photos I took today morning.

Another good advice to you folks! Don't even consider this lens for taking photos of your very young kids. They can't and will not stand still while you focus. DoF of this Samyang + APSC at short distance (around 1-2m) is pretty small. So even millimeters of misfocus are the difference between sharp and completely out-of-focus photos!

is it good enough or should be better ?

Congratulations on your M Mount Pavel :D 8-) ...am sure you have many lenses to add ;) and yes this one is 'big' - but looks most capable . I like the first image greatly as the levels of seperation between focus sharpness and background are most apparent 8-)

Many Thanks - Kort .

You know this was my first experience of a lens adaptered on to an EVIL-type camera - via a PK mount to the Samsung NX10 whilst I was waiting for Ricoh to get around to the A12 mount. I was stoked, so much so that I ended up with quite a few manual lenses. But by the time I got my hands on a GXR-M many months later I had built up quite a collection of lenses. So much so that I actually think I have not tried this wonderful lens on the GXR-M - what horror! Must recfify this as soon as possible ...

It is a great lens, I have read a magazine article comparing it to the similar specified products of the big name, Canon, Zeiss, Nikon, and it held up well.

So if anyone can handle the size and weight then they are sure to get some great images with this combo.

Pavel, as I can see the most of picts are taken with f:2 and smaller. For practical use 85/2 would be much better. Canon, Nikon, Olympus and Pentax all made them in the past. I can see only one real use for a such speed guy. Photographing in the situations where you have to keep distance to be discreet. Chamber music, church ceremonies, solemn moments. Silent shutter (electronic) is perfect in such case. The king of this range is without doubt Summilux 75/1.4 but at what cost, my God! Czesc Stanislaw
