I'm curious about the statue on the first photo. Is this just for fun or it represent a real person?

Yes, the spring is right now here. Trees didn't come to leafs yet, so the landscape was still little bit grey. I added something to the diary but not very much.
My first and third photos are from the same market place area. The third, fourth (old castle http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Oulu_Castle) and fifth (small island near the downtown) photos are taken one day before the first of May (labour day?) (on Thurday 30.4.). The second one is taken on Saturday 2.5. It is from the riverside (one other option was to take photo from the sea, but I didn't have time). And the first one is taken on Sunday 3.5.
The exif time is not valid with my local time.

Here are the pictures from Sweden!

Forget the bright blue and yellow colors of the flag, this is the true color of Sweden! A wooden house or cabin painted in Falu rödfärg with white corners. Yes, I grew up in a house painted like this :)

Sweden has a long coast line, more then half it's borders is water, and large archipelagos. This picture is taken in Stockholms Archipelago wich has something like 24 000 islands (or even over 30 000 depending how you count). To spend your vaccation here "by the sea" is very popular and is what I did during my childhood summers. Alot of water leads to alot of boats and according to unconfirmed sources Sweden has over 1 million boats, among the most per capita in the world. Every sixth person owns some kind of a boat! No, both my dad and I have sold ours :)

Up to 75% of the landarea in Sweden are covered with some kind of forrest with different pinetrees beeing to most common. This has caused a long tradition of forestry and timber industry. Sweden is said to be at the forefront in trying to use these renewable natural resources to lessen our dependencies on fossil fuels by making things like ethanol (to power cars for example). Although recent studies (according to major Swedish newspaper DN) show that electric cars are more efficient and better for the enviorment so we'll see how it goes. But still, they're at least trying :)

Many people seem to think that here "up north" it's all ice and snow with huge mountains and polar bears roaming the streets. Well, the ice and snow is "just" half the year, there's no polar bears in Sweden and the mountains are very small. The mountain thing is because of the last ice age. First the ice grew down from the pole over the country crushing everything in it's way and then x couple of thousand years later the ice started going back the other way grinding down what was left. This has resulted in mountains, or maybe rather hills, that are very roundish, "soft" and small and not at all the sharp big things you can see further down south in the alps wich never was reach by the ice.

If I hade to choose a some kind of symbol for Sweden I probably go for the Dalahäst. A wooden horse with handpainted pattern. The classic color is red but some "modern" version also exist but don't fall for that if your out shopping, a Swede will just come along and tell you you've bought the wrong color ;)

Great photos, and a great way to know different cultures from an inside view!

Ok, depending on the rythm, there might be a problem, or not... I'll be away in the first week of August, and probably in the last two (not sure yet). If I receive the camera until the last week of July, it's ok. But if It's belated to August I might arrange a way for getting someone to pick the camera, but it will have to wait for my return, sorry.

I'm mentioning this now only to allert the next participants, but we'll see how it goes. Hopefully it will be ok
