CX1 anti-reflection coat wear off

Postby ssahlander » Fri Jul 30, 2010 11:01 pm

Hi all,
As mentioned on http://www.ricoh.com/r_dc/press/release/nr_cx1.html
The (CX1) screen has a fluorine coat to prevent soiling, a hard coat to prevent scratches, and an anti-reflection coat to give greater visibility even outdoors in bright sunshine.

After less than one year of use is either one of, or both the fluorine coat and an anti-reflection coat starting to wear off.
It's now almost impossible for me to use the camera in day light since I cant see the screen due to the reflections.

Has anybody else the same problem and does anybody have a solution? Can I buy fluorine/anti-reflection coat from somewhere and apply those to fix my screen?

Thanks in advance!

Stefan,
I do not think you can repair it.
There is a vendor for this LCD

http://www.g-plushk.com/

tell him that you need the lcd for CX1
he quoted me @ 35usd which I think is very reasonable

Thanks for the tip wj,

When I tried to open http://www.g-plushk.com my browser warned me that the site is blocked due to that "it has a history of installing sw without your knowledge" - or something like that...

Anyway, I sent the info I submitted above to Ricoh support via e-mail and I have now received a return sticker with which I will send it for repair (or at least I hope it will be fixed when I get it back).
I'll keep you posted.

I hope they warranty it for you, keep us posted.

I also got the google warning and forwarded that warning to the company owner…he emailed back the following day that he had contacted google and fixed the issue.
I have done biz with them and was surprised to see that warning (the first for me)…I looked at the data and google indicated that there had been one (1) incident that caused this flagging….so I dunno.
I am inclined to believe the company is good and their website is safe, but….ymmv.

I got my CX1 with a new display back from repair today :-) "LCD Monitor replaced and Firmware updated"
They also did a set of quality tests, according to a provided "Quality Certificate".
No questions asked, no payment required.

Facts:
Taken into use September 11 2009.
It's been with me basically all the time since then (including lots of walking and some biking): 10500 photos.
When not held in hand it's kept in a Lowepro Rezo 30 bag: http://products.lowepro.com/product/Rezo-30,2012,25.htm
Cleaned using a Smart Microfibre Optical Cloth http://www.clasohlson.co.uk/Product/Product.aspx?id=149770888

Am I really the only one who has had this problem?

I'm certain that you are not alone.
I managed to let my CX1 fall from my pants pocket (all of 5 inches) onto some gravel...that was the beginning of the end of my LCD coating.
I was always wiping it and soon enough the areas that had seen impact began to flake off the anti glare coating.
I sold the camera at a great loss and got a CX3 (which immediately had a protective sheet applied to its LCD.

No, you're not the only one. My CX1 (which is now just a year old) is starting to show wear in spots. Mostly from fingerprints when carrying by my side or pulling out of case. So far, it's not too bothersome. But it is happening.

Love the look of the LCD, but may spring for a shield of some sort. My GRD and GX100 have polymer covers that are sort of glue-on.
