Flash for GX100/200

Postby Rog Tallbloke » Tue Jun 12, 2012 5:01 pm

I think the GX series uses the Sigma protocol, but it has been noted that Sigma TTL flash units are big and heavy.
But what about the flash Sigma made for their own compact cameras?

Does this have the same TTL standard? It does have a TTL auto mode according to the manual:
http://www.sigma-imaging-uk.com/pdfs/EF ... 0Flash.pdf

WEIGHT: 68g
DIMENSIONS : 56.5mm (W) x 73.5mm (H) x 20.5mm (L).

Guide number of 14 (100 ISO) which is 2 times more powerful than the built-in flash on the GX200

It's pretty small and light, and can run on AAA batteries, just like the GX camera can in an emergency too.
Maybe this is a good solution? Any experiences?

Just about any flash you get that has a worthwhile guide nr will be very heavy and big on a gx###.
i use a cable and a flash bracket and this allows me to use an olympus FL40 on my gx100.
It works too

Hi Pollobarca, I have been using an old Olympus OM flash unit, which is a bit hit and miss for gauging the exposure. Does your FL40 synchronise as TTL or do you operate it manually?

Only manual. It actually works better on the ricoh gx100 than it does on my oly elp1. I am not getting the results from the epl 1. This flash was ok and synchrd with the oly c5050z and other e cameras of that period. It went obsolete with the arrival of the fl36 and fl50.they would be full manual to with the ricoh. I found the flb cable on ebay for a song but I believe a canon cable works too.
I think it works better with the ricoh because of the shutter. Full manual for the camera and the flash.

I got this wrong, there is no TTL capability on the GX100 or GX200, so automatic is the only option. I'll carry on playing with my Olympus OM flash, which is turning out to be pretty useful as a fill flash on overcast days.
